You'd think the prospect of Barack Obama moving into the White House would have progressive talk radio hosts salivating at a new boomlet in interest in what they have to say. The idea is floating out there, but Air America host and MSNBC favorite Rachel Maddow was quick to knock it down with her pea shooter. I interviewed her earlier today for an upcoming story about the coverage of the just-ended primary season.

Love the video, but the headphones keep making me think of Michael Dukakis riding in the tank.

I have long-believed that talk radio from the left is never going to have the presence of conservative radio.
First of all right wing radio has a long history, going back to at least the '70s. I had a friend from Chicago who got all of his views from some programs there. This was the first I'd heard of it.
Secondly, I think people on the right like to hear their views reinforced over and over again. They seem especially vulnerable to being scared all the time about something.
First it was communists. Then the UN and black helicopters and super highways and our enemies were going to use them to march over and enslave us.
Then we had Muslims and, of course, the latest hot topic , illelgal aliens.
Now they've hit the jackpot with an African-American candidate for president. Lordy. lordy!

Thanks for posting this, Aaron. Maddow makes the most incisive comments out there. She finds stories where no one looks. Unfortunately her Air America show is now p.m. in NYC. No, I'm not going to do the podcast with commercials. But I love her appearances on MSNBC, and how Keith Olbermann is so respectful of her.
