1. "Mad Men." Nominated for 17 Emmys, the retrodrama is not yet a ratings hit, but that should change when it returns for a second season this Sunday on AMC.
2. Tons more "SNL" this fall. Four live shows in a row, plus Thursday-night "Weekend Updates" in prime time, make me wish we had a national election every year.
3. "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon gave it away on his website for a week. But even for a $4 download, this musical starring Neil Patrick Harris as a would-be evil genius is still a bargain.
... WHAT'S NOT
1. Emmy's obsession with "Boston Legal." The over-the-hill legal farce and James Spader both got nominations last week. "The Wire" got two in five years.
2. Joost. It's the video streaming service that makes you feel better about the future of print.
3. The CW. Two remaining black sitcoms are sent packing to Fridays to make room for shows about rich white girls. If anybody actually watched the CW, I'd be furious.
