Three big shows kick off tonight.
There is the premiere of the last season of "The Shield" on FX. Here's my preview along with a review of tomorrow's new FX series, "Sons of Anarchy."
The Republican National Convention begins in earnest tonight. I'll be watching on C-SPAN, for reasons you can read about here. Keith Olbermann will be part of MSNBC's coverage, contrary to other reports out there. KO clarifies in an email: "We announced this last night at the end of the hurricane - Chris'll be at St Paul; I'll be in New York. This gives us flexibility because the next hurricane may sweep up the Florida coast as early as Thursday." It occurred to me later that President Bush wasn't the only one who had gotten a free pass to skip out on St. Paul -- Olbermann got one, too. On the other hand, as I first learned watching KO cover Hurricane Gustav on Monday afternoon, those midweek hurricanes (aka "Double Trouble") may indeed wipe the RNC off the air in Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami and Raleigh-Durham.
Finally, tonight is the not-as-widely-anticipated-as-you'd-think premiere of the remake of "90210" on the network that is trying to be the remake of Fox -- namely, the CW. Nobody I know was given a screener of this show, so we'll all be experiencing it together tonight. Or not.
