Big Emmy night for Metro Sports
Looks like it was a very good night for a Kansas City TV station, weathercaster and one-of-a-kind sports network at the Mid-America Emmys in St. Louis Saturday night. (I say "looks like" because I am reporting from telegraph reports coming into my station some 2,900 kilometers away from the Lumiere Place Casino.)
Metro Sports, which serves cable customers in Kansas and Missouri and is the outsourced sports department of KCTV-5 (which hasn't worked out badly for KCTV-5 viewers, I don't think), scored seven Emmys out of its market-leading 18 Emmy nominations.
Also, KSHB-TV, which always seems to do better than a station of its size should, tied with a St. Louis station for overall news excellence.
It was a good night for Fox 4 meteorologist Mike Thompson, too -- he got into the Emmys' Silver Circle by virtue of being on air locally for 25 years. Kind of a ceremonial prize, I guess, but you try staying on local TV for 25 years.

Hey Aaron. What are your views on censorship?
[That in a lot of cases, it's editing by another name. There sure seem to be a lot of commenters lately who feel entitled to say anything they want on my blog.--AB]
