In the accompanying link from KCRW's "The Business", Doyle also explains that the sellers of the international versions of "Millionaire" kept rights to use the likenesses, names, etc. for "Millionaire" in other productions as part of the deal. Therefore, the new owners had no say in the matter. Quite the synergy of assets and seemingly quite intentional that they would grab a project needing a "Millionaire"-type show...

I was talking to someone I know who now works for Celador about this the other day. Basically, when the sold on the rights to "Millionaire" they retained the rights to do themselves what they wanted with it in films. So when it came to this screenplay, they were free too fully use all the elements of the gameshow without needing to worry about what the current owners thought. And they're doing quite well with it...

It opens today in the UK and in a couple of weeks in India!
