Time Warner Cable KC lays off 3 percent

This is the second layoff in six months at the area's dominant cable provider, and like the last one, it is ostensibly about efficiency.

Having gone through three layoffs cycles in six months -- and who knows, maybe another one after tomorrow's McClatchy conference call with investors -- I can tell you this ain't fun.

Time Warner is stressing once again that customer service won't get any worse as a result of these cuts. The statement ...

"Time Warner Cable remains a financially strong company but has been affected by a slower growth in the economy. To remain competitive and provide an exceptional customer experience, Time Warner Cable is focused on managing the business efficiently; streamlining operations and duplicative positions at the divisional level. Yesterday’s announcement will affect less than three percent of the workforce company wide—a very small percentage—and will not affect employees in direct customer facing positions. The impact on Kansas City will be minimal."
