In honor of the Tea Party rallies that are going on across the country today, local political consultant Steve Glorioso and I debated the Fairness Doctrine in front of the Liberty Memorial (where low-taxers and no-taxers will be rallying today).
Steve believes it’s high time that Congress restores the Fairness Doctrine, which was struck down in 1987. AM radio is flooded with right-wing talk show hosts promoting today’s rallies, and Steve thinks this is a patently unfair use of our “public airwaves.”
I say that’s nonsense, that station managers have every right to put on what they want to put on their air, that radio’s influence is diminished and that there are numerous other media outlets where liberals and anyone else can get their message across -- including a pile of new media that have sprung up since the Fairness Doctrine’s demise 20 years ago.
Ramsey Mohsen, the city’s best vloggers, agreed to do the video of the debate. Thanks, Ramsey!

You raise a good point of outlets that weren't there for Liberals prior to the Fairness Doctrine such as "The Daily Show"
If we did have the Fairness Doctrine back it would probably mean a conservative answer to it and well we've already seen how bad conservatives are at comedy with "The Half-Hour News Hour".
