What's working for me this week....
1. Greensburg, Kansas. I just returned from my third trip there and am amazed how many sustainable, high-tech buildings (like the new Business Incubator) are going up in that tornado-wrecked town. See for yourself when the Planet Green TV series "Greensburg" returns for its second season Sunday, which I'll preview this weekend.
2. Dane Patterson. The "Biggest Loser" contestant got into trouble with long-distance runners after claiming to run a marathon in January (he cut out three miles to accommodate the show's camera crew). Last weekend in Nashville, he made good on his promise to run the full 26.2 miles.
3. "In Treatment." Possibly the cheapest HBO series in history is also its most riveting in years.
... AND WHAT'S NOT
1. "Prison Break." Not sure which was the greater disservice: Fox renewing the show for a fourth season or Fox announcing the show's cancellation before the season even aired. But the damage was done, as evidenced by "Prison Break's" horrid ratings on Fridays — that can't be helping "Dollhouse's" chances for renewal.
2. "Private Practice" ratings up. Remember when 9 p.m. on Thursdays was the "quality hour"?
3. Super-sized DVRs. A 150-hour TiVo is a daily reminder of how much good TV you're never going to get around to watching.
