And the person voted off "Survivor" is ... we interrupt this program!
I was out tonight, so I had first hand experience with tonight's severe extreme hide-in-the-basement weather. Here is my report.
It was kinda clammy outside, like it might rain.
And there was some pretty lightning out to the east.
Thank heavens it wasn't worse. Otherwise people would have their favorite shows pre-empted right in the middle of the May sweeps.
Right?
Uh ... I'll just let the readers rain on our local weathercasters' parades:
It's a shame that Survivor is a KCTV-5 show. When it comes to spring weather, we can count on Katie to preempt even the last few minutes of Survivor in order to get on camera to go all tornado on us while announcing a tornado warning for a county out of the immediate TV viewing area that likely has local warning systems in effect.
The other channels do not go all tornadic in their coverage, but manage to wisely use a crawl. Not Katie. Katie should have her own show on another channel. Perhaps in another town. The Katie I-Can't-Help-Myself Tornado Is A'Comin' Channel. Or a Thunderstorm's A-Blowin' or a Snows A'Fallin'.
I am a loyal fan of Channel 41, the NBC folks. And I'm venting here, because you cover local TV in this market. Good luck with that. -- Randy Trainor
Speaking of 41, Gary Lezak is defending the station's decision to pre-empt "The Office" (tornado near Chillicothe) but also taking credit for not pre-empting "30 Rock." The man knows my priorities, obviously.
It is about 8:30 and all four local channels are still talking about something that has not happened and probably won't. look at computer models available on the net and you will see they are talking trash. expose these idiots for what they are. -- (Anon.)
Do you know if Channel 9 will broadcast "Grey's Anatomy" which was superseded by severe weather this evening? I believe in alerting people, but in this day and age of small maps, beeps, and banners I still don't know why we have to watch full screen radar for over an hour. -- Jeanne Martin
Jeanne, and all other "Grey's" fans -- here's the latest from Channel 9 which is trying to get permission to rebroadcast what they shoulda just gone ahead and broadcast.
KCTV-5 has pre-empted so many of my favorite programs and it is endless .... what's wrong with putting up warnings in the corner and WAITING FOR EMERGENCIES to spend over an hour telling us about something that doesn't affect even half of the metro.
And yet, you wait to interrupt until they are reading the votes on who is getting voted off of Survivor, or let's just skip ALL of CSI to watch Katie Horner.
What is wrong with you people at this station? Do the weather people get paid bonuses by the hour or minute of airtime for Katie Horner?
I don't dislike Katie Horner personally, but I absolutely cannot abide by the endless and long-lasting interruptions. As a matter of interest, how much time has Katie Horner logged on (airtime) during emergencies, versus other newscasters in our area (say Mike Thompson or Brian Busby)? -- Anon.
Here's who got voted off Survivor.
