Greensburg, Kansas: "The wind took it away, the wind could bring it back"
Monday's Page One features my story on the second anniversary of the Greensburg tornado and the remarkable strides that city of less than 1,000 has taken to rebuild using sustainable technology.
It's not often that I get to spend so much time reporting a story and then as much space as the Star can possibly hold these days writing it. (My editor, David Frese, did a terrific job, I must say, excising about 50 percent of my original draft.) This was my third reporting trip to Greensburg since the tornado. You can search TVB to see my previous video and story efforts.
The paper also sent photographer Jill Toyoshiba out and she did her usual awesome job. This one of Paul Unruh is just one of several worth seeing in her photo gallery. I've emailed Jill asking her for more, more, more pictures.
And here are some pix I took on my camera phone. Justin the Canadian, a volunteer at our Mennonite Church, shot about eight hours of video while we were there, but I have aboslutely no time right now to edit video.
Today's story turned out to be the second in a series; yesterday I wrote about the new season of the Planet Green cable TV series "Greensburg" and the prospects for the show's return for a third season.
