Boy, here is a great lesson of "if it seems too good to be true ... look it up!" Fellow Twitter nut Troy Diggs at KMBC-9 passed along this tweet this evening as we were all remembering the late King of Pop:
@ryanmer On 09/18/1979, Farrah Fawcett & Michael Jackson were both guests on the Tonight Show w/Johnny Carson, co-hosted by Ed McMahon.
Great factoid, and I posted it immediately, and it rapidly spread from there. A few minutes later, it occurred to me that mebbe I should've checked it out first. So I went to JohnnyCarson.com, the official "Tonight Show" site maintained by Carson Enterprises, and went to its comprehensive, 30-year guest search function. See the video for yourself:
Not only did Jacko never appear with Farrah Fawcett, he never appeared on the "Tonight Show" after the Jackson 5 days, according to the guest database.
And in fact, a search for 09/18/1979 revealed ... Johnny didn't do a show that night.
Oddly enough, the late Fawcett appeared twice on the "Tonight Show" with the Temptations.

Oh, sure, blame ME... ;-)
Seriously, Kate Jackson's site has a listing of videos Farrah appeared in (including Tonight Show appearances), but it didn't have that date listed. I was going to research it some more, but ended up cooking dinner.

Sorry You're Wrong! Search this website -- it's the official johnny carson site. If you search, you'll see that the Jackson 5 was on the show 8/19/74 and the day after Farrah Fawcett was onthe show 8/20/74. The rumor was never that they were on the show together! But it's still crazy!

[Google delivers some gems to my doorstep, don't it? The management stands by its story. But hey, thanks for the pointer to the Carson site -- who knew?? --AB]

Actually, even though this particular rumor is not true. Fawcett and Jackson did appear, strange enough, on the Tonight show on adjacent nights in 1974; August 19, 1974 and August 20, 1974, respectively.
