On Nov. 7 we’ll be voting on whether to increase taxes on tobacco products to cover medical costs associated with tobacco usage. Well then, why not tax fast food establishments for the medical costs resulting from their artery-clogging fare and start taxing the auto industry for medical costs stemming from injuries sustained on the roads? The list could go on.

Looks to me like our choice is between "Tax and Spend" or "Spend and Borrow".
What a choice.

engineer: It isn't the "take less" that I have problems with. It's the "take less but spend more" Republicans that I find distasteful.
This Congress and President appear to be living by the motto, "Don't raise taxes, just borrow more money."
I always thought that "conservatives" were for fiscal responsibility. Must have been some other "conservatives" cause it sure ain't this bunch.

"The Republican Party wants to let peolpe keep more of what they earn"
That's a false promise if they jack up spending through the roof (which they've done) and correspondingly jack up borrowing through the roof (which they've done).
I'm for fiscal responsibility. Accordingly, I'm voting those bozos out, in hope of restoring accountability (not to mention accounting) to Washington.

CRD
The Republican Party wants to let peolpe keep more of what they earn, the Democratic Party wants to take more and distribute it to others.

"I thought that promising people the moon and telling them that someone else would pay for it was the Democratic Party's platform."
No, Republican Party's. And the "someone else" who'll foot the bill? That would be your kids.

kate: Have you looked at the record of the Republicans in control of Congress and the White House? Talk about "you don't have to pay for it" politics. These guys make the Dems look like misers!
It's ALL of them. The color of the tie doesnn't matter. That that are lieing, slimey politicians does.
TATBO!

"We can provide the services YOU want and make someone else pay", is something to be ashamed of.

Saw one of the "pro" commercials for this. Am more and more glad I don't live in Missouri.
Whoe thing is bold faced. Basicallt says, "We can expand medicaid for children and ONLY SMOKERS WILL PAY FOR IT."
Talk about appealing to the worst in people. What ever happened to the "shared burden"?
