Let people see audit

The Star’s recent op-ed columns and articles regarding Sunshine Week highlighted the essential role of access to information in the democratic process. Citizens must be well-informed to vote intelligently.

Kansas Citians lack critical information for the upcoming mayoral and City Council election. The mayor and City Council are blocking release of an audit of tax-increment financing.

Why? I assume findings in the audit will embarrass Mayor Barnes and the council members who approved massive TIF projects in recent years. City auditor Gary White’s job is likely being held captive; Mr. White serves at the pleasure of the mayor and City Council and can be fired any time he offends them.

Mayor Barnes and City Council, let the sunshine in! Release the TIF audit now!

Comments

I eagerly await The Star's series of articles hinting about the hidden reasons behind this blocking of access and calling for "Open Books".

Not show the tax paying public the books of T.I.F.S.? What do you think our polticians are, preachers? Ot, better yet, the President?
