To cure, care for psoriasis

I would like to express my appreciation to Rep. Emanuel Cleaver for co-sponsoring the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Research, Cure and Care Act (HR1188).

This important, first-ever comprehensive legislation calls upon the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to expand their work with respect to psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. It will go a long way in helping to expand and improve research on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, strengthen psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis epidemiology and improve access to care for people who suffer from these conditions.

Psoriasis is a genetic disease of the immune system. As many as 7.5 million Americans are affected by psoriasis and its inflammatory, painful, disfiguring and disabling diseases for which there is no cure. Each year, Americans with psoriasis lose approximately 56 million hours of work and spend $2 billion to $3 billion to treat the disease. Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are serious conditions warranting sophisticated medical care and therapies.

Rep. Cleaver, thank you for your continued support of the psoriasis community.
