Graves and SCHIP

Regarding U.S. Rep. Sam Graves’ As I See It (10/4, “Expensive expansion would help the wrong people”): When it comes to children’s health insurance, he is asking the wrong questions. He should spend less time worrying about who pays and spend more time thinking about what we can do to ensure that every child in this country has a healthy start in life.

Whatever decisions parents may make about their own insurance coverage, we can all agree it is deeply wrong to punish children in ways that will affect the very course of their lives.

Even Graves’ fellow Missouri Republicans, Sen. Kit Bond and Rep. Joann Emerson, broke with the president on this issue. As Bond said: “I am very disappointed that the president has vetoed the SCHIP bill. It is a valuable safety net for needy children who don’t have the means to purchase affordable health care.”

Graves has cemented his reputation as a rubber stamp for the president, even when that is not what his constituents, or the rest of Americans, want.

You know lower case, plese say "Republicans" not conservatives; the conservatives in our party want to slap the snot out of the big spenders........RINO's if you will....we are as po'd as you apparently are.

Long live the Charge It! "coonservatives".

Billions for defense lower case,Trillions for social welfare program, like the "War on Poverty", what's the price tag on that by now? How many trillion?

Nope, I think she is a dummycrat through and through.....

Judging by the writer's statement that we shouldn't worry about how to pay for this, she must be a Republican.

I've got a credit card, let's go to war!

This bill was a poison pill to begin with. No matter how you voted you would get slammed (vote against it and you hate children, vote for it and you are wasteful with tax payer's money). This bill should have never left commettee, and in fact I would blame those that even allowed it on the floor.

Unlike you Claire, I live in the Congressman's district, and I support his vote 100%. However, this newspaper just had to publish your letter, because it fits perfectly into their template, you could have lived in Zambia!
