The earth without us

In The Star’s FYI section of Jan 8 there is a picture projection of what Kansas City would look like if the human race becomes extinct.

What an exercise in futility and irrelevancy. If the human race becomes extinct — a distinct possibility if we continue to mismanage the earth — there will be no one to see what Kansas City looks like in 50 or 250 years. Or as some philosophers comment: If there is no one to see it, did it really happen?

Many scientists think we are on the road to extinction unless some radical action is taken by world governments to halt our degradation of nature.

Without the human race, nature will repair itself. Our earth will return to its pristine beauty. The land and the seas will once more teem with life. The air will be cleansed of toxicity. The waste and all other remains of human excesses will decay back into the earth. Only our species will not be around to observe it. A million years from now the imprint of our species will be all but gone, leaving possibly a few fossilized bones.

solomon - great post! LOL!

On the radio recently someone was reading a newspaper article from the mid-19th century. The main cause for distress to the reporter was the anticipated problem of horse manure removal from city limits.
How could this not be a major concern? After all, we had a bustling economy. More and more people were "ponying up" to buy a horse and carriage - it was simple math - we would soon be living among horse crap.
Kinda makes you grateful for the evil invention of the automobile, doesn't it?

Yep I remember twenty-five years ago, "Science" were saying the oceans would be totally poisioned in ten years and all marine life would be gone."

Take a chill pill Tom, you need one badly.

Another thought Tom. With evolution being a FACT, won't we just evolve into people who breath in toxic air and are fueled by waste products? No worries mate. Or maybe we will evolve into styrofoam bodies!

solomon

Thats correct Tom, everything will decay back into mother earth, with the exception of those $4 styrofoam coolers, they'll last forever.

Not bad for $4.

You know Tom, in the 60's they shouls us a picture of life in the 80's where we would only have a 2 foot by 2 foot space to live in. It would be so crowded and we were all going to be wearing tin foil suits because the suns radiation would be so intense.
Scared the crap out me Tom. Fool me once.. (I was about 10). Are you about 10 Tom?
