Human rights, Cuba

I would like to answer Pablo La Rosa’s “trick question” (2/14, Letters, “Who is currently responsible for perpetrating the most serious human rights violations on the island of Cuba -- Fidel Castro or George W. Bush?”) with one of my own: Is anyone being detained at Guantanamo for being gay or an anti-regime reporter or writing dumb letters to the newspaper? (No hint necessary.)

Like most people that depend on the Star for news of the world they have no idea what they're talking about. I've said it again and again, this non-reporting, agenda driven yellow journalism paper is the single biggest source of the dumbing down of the Kansas City area! Unbelievable. Castro imprisons a higher percentage of his country than any leader in history has. Political freedoms that we here more than take for granted are not found in Cuba. Darlings of the media and of liberals, Castro and Che Guevara tried to force the Soviets to use the nuclear missiles stationed in Cuba against the U.S. When the missiles were taken away Castro and Che planned an elaborate attack on Thanksgiving shoppers in New York City. Thank God it was discovered because of the amount of explosives, it would have made the 9-11 attacks pale in comparison. I could go on and on. What's the point? Who cares to find out the truth right? Just keep reading the Star.
