Boy Scouts of America is a great organization that teaches boys responsibility, survival skills and discipline.
I introduced one of my friends into the scouting program, and because of the skills he learned, he was able to save the life of his brother, who suffered a very serious and deep gash.
Scouting is not something that only geeks do. I encourage all boys interested in scouts to go for it. You get to go on campouts, summer camps and a weeklong camping experience.
Even if you’re not the outdoor type, there are plenty of other things to do.
Scouting saved my friend’s life. Why not join?

The annual fee for Scouts is $45 a year. Camping fees are paid for through popcorn sales, pancake breakfasts and other fund raising events. And as Kate mentioned, uniforms can be passed down and no one is ever turned away even thought the annual cost is minimal. As for it's policies, it really comes down to the individual pack and I do not remember any questions on the application asking if I or my son was gay.
As for NMMNGs lovely comments, you are one offensive SOB today. What's up with that? You made some well thought out and intelligent points earlier in the week and today we find you spewing nothing but hate filled garbage. We all know you hate women but we didn't realize you were homophobic as well. Or are those just latent tendencies rising to the surface?

Tom you must be a pole smoker. You choose to be gay not choose to be hetero, you're born male or female except on freak occasion. People are not born gay.
Go on now....off to your butt pirate club.

Maybe NoMoreMrNiceGuy can tell us when he chose to be heterosexual. Since sexual orientation is a choice, he must have made that choice at one point in his life, too.

Kate I seriously did not know that, I respect that. Many simply believe kids are entitled to every extra cirricular activity and if you can not afford it, you are a bad parent. My mother could not or would not afford things like Scouts. Chnaces are she did not dig deep enough. I had friends that were in Scouts and they loved it. As for the person commenting about discrimination, it's the BOY Scouts not the GAY Scouts. First of all there is no reason a kid should be gay, being gay is a lifestyle preference that someone chooses and a minor is too young and too uninformed to make a decision to have a pro-sodomy stance in life.

It's too bad that an organization that does so much good also discriminates against the nonreligious and gays.

NMMNG, I know you’re just being snotty here, but to answer your question, it was our experience that no boy was turned away from our Pack because his family couldn’t afford Scouting. Uniforms were passed from family to family, and Pack fundraisers were held to keep costs down for everyone.

What if you can not afford to join the Boy Scouts? or is it an entitlement like soccer camp, football camp, leadership camp, basketball camp, unltimate fighting camp, hockey camp, etc.?
