Economic discrimination

I find it interesting that the economic stimulus package approved by the Congress excluded those individuals from the government larder who make more than $75,000 a year and couples whose combined income exceeds $150,000 a year.

At one time we, as American citizens, were one piece of fabric. Today we are taking this same fabric and tearing it to shreds with federal, state and local government programs like special endowments, grants, welfare, child care, TIFS, special education, health care, food stamps, entitlements, farm subsidies, government bailouts, economic stimulus packages and affirmative action.

Into how many pieces can the fabric of America be torn until it simply becomes a rag?

In today’s society one can be sent to jail for sexual, racial, age or religious discrimination. However, if you make too much money, economic discrimination is considered legal, openly encouraged and sanctioned at all levels of government.

Tell me, where is the justice and fair treatment in economic discrimination?

What's your definition of "rebate"? I never did understand yours for "majority".

Mr Styers, you might be confusing economic stimulus with vote buying....with your money.

"Then, I saw the OP address and it all made sense. As good as the Bush years have been to Johnson County, we're just trying to squeeze a little something extra in before the Bush years finally close out?

There's no such thing as "enough" in some households."

Hey the Clinton years, the Bush Sr years, and the Reagan years were all good to Johnson County. It has something to do with promoting business, education, etc and not hindering it. It also has to do with having a good local government that is more interested in promoting than self serving. KC, Mo has gotten exactly what it has asked for and it paying for it now.

Ive got to agree with J-Net on this one. Politicians love to carve us up into groups and get the have nots thinking that all that is wrong with this country is that the Haves aren't paying their "fair share". Of course if I was pulling down 150k a year it wouldnt bother me enough to write a letter to the paper, but thats just me.

There's no such thing as enough in some households?

Are you kidding me? How about being fair? The people who don't make enough to quality for a rebate check in most cases don't pay taxes anyway. Why is it that making a lot of money in this country automatically makes you part of the "evil" rich? The people I know who make a lot of money do so by working long, hard hours and deserve a rebate just as much as anybody else.
So save your righteous indignation for a better cause.

I thought this letter had to be a joke.

Is that you NoMo?

By the way, you forgot those who made too little to qualify for the checks. Do the extremely poor just not count when you are rending your clothing about the tearing of the social fabric? Do only the rich count in your opinion?

Just asking.
