The relentless criticism of Sarah Palin has more to do with her gender and conservative views than her qualifications.
Democrats are upset because John McCain didn’t get the memo that only Democrats are allowed to nominate women. Liberals are upset because McCain didn’t get the memo that only women with liberal views are worthy of representing women.
Democrats and liberals want desperately to keep Republicans in the imaginary box Democrats portray them in. For Republicans to deviate from the stereotype Democrats have conjured up about them is an outrage and must be stomped out quickly.
Democrats believe they have the exclusive right to promote the progress of women in politics. Now the Republicans have stolen the ball, and the unthinkable is now a possibility: The first woman to ascend to the White House may do so in a Republican presidency.

Good evening Engineer,
For the answer to your questions you'd have to ask an Obama supporter. My wife and I will see a tax hike if he's elected, so I guess some of the money will come from us.
I do not fear Obama though. If he is elected fine. If McCain is elected, fine. Neither of them deserve my vote or yours.

Eng: I watched the debate also. Neither Obama or McCain was willing to say what would go on hold due to the economy. Both Obama and McCain have proposed tax cuts and big additional expenditures.
Both are full of the icky, stinky.

I think Obama is a real danger. It now appears that there will be no money to fund any of the programs he has been promoting. There will be no serious revenues from capital gains taxes, as there will be no significant capital gains. His income tax program as presented would have resulted in a slight decrease in revenue and this was before the drop in stock prices. He hasn't said where he will go from here. What programs will he put on hold, what programs will he push? How will he fund them?

The debate this Thursday has me fascinated enough that I wish I had a TIVO. Gotta work that night. Hope CSPAN has middle of the night reruns.
Heard a liberal talking head say Biden should phrase all his answers as, "This is the position of Barrack Obama and myself. But everyone knows that. I think America would like to know what you think about this issue, Sarah." Then stand there quietly and wait for her to start babbling.
Of course, the odds on Biden standing quietly are probably higher than the odds on Palin making sense. But it would be funny.
BTW: Palin has also now said our troops should absolutly go into Pakistan when necessary. Didn't McCain tell Obama how wrong it is to say that just the other day?

Too bad Kansas and MO hadn't learned anything from the excellent book, 'What's the matter with Kansas.'

Obama has gained a slight lead in North Carolina for the first time in this election. One of the main reasons appears to be Palin, who has dropped like a rock with voters there. I guess, according to Eng, the North Carolina is filled with liberals who are "running scared."

half of Obama could be green and the other half could be purple. It doesn't change that he is an ivy league grad and a very smart person. I would vote for Obama over McCain regardless of skin color.
However, I am going to vote for Ron Paul over Obama, but I do think that Obama is a far better candidate to lead the country than McCain and McCain's Tina Fey impersonator.

At least conservatives have, in effect, stopped defending the rash decision to bring Palin onto the ticket.
I you are going to nominate the first woman, don't embarrass all women be nominating less that the best possible candidate.
Obama, on the other hand, the first black nominee is there because he has earned it. He ran the best campaign, he got the most votes, the got the most delegates, he raised the most money, he even registered the most new voters. Finally, he's an impressive, intellectual, former editor of Harvard's Law review, a Constitutional Law professor at Univ of Chicago's law school, graduated at the top of his class both at Columbia and Harvard.
I want an impressive person running the country. If he happens to be black, all the better. I'm proud to vote for him because he's the best candidate. And, as a black man in America, I'm proud to vote for him because he's a black man.

what's scarier... a person who is an Ivy league grad whom eng claims knows nothing about economics, or having a person who finished near the bottom of his military academy class (or whatever academy it was) whom has publicly admitted to not knowing economics as president?
I am more scared about the damage to the economy that will be done by the person who admits to not being good at economics. I have more faith in an ivy league graduate on that issue.

The mere fact that such a ridiculous letter was even published by your newspaper demonstrates what a backwater market you live.
Palin irks liberals--and conservatives--because she's an idiot. "Just like us" is fine for PTA chairwomen...not for Veeps!
Too bad Kansas and MO hadn't learned anything from the excellent book, 'What's the matter with Kansas.'

Palin doesn't irk liberal women. Palin is a liberal's best friend. She's an irrelevant Vice-Presidential candidate on a ticket that is 8 points behind (by some polls) going into the last month of the race.
We liberals all love Sarah. What's not to love. She's beautiful, she attracts the Republican base. She spews the Republican talking points to the Republican base. Independents have already stopped listening to her.
Independents are now Obama's to lose. All he has to do is convince them that his plans make sense.
Go Sarah! You are doing a great job. Enjoy your 15 minutes.

Good evening Engineer,
if she walks like a duck.....it doesn't mean she's chasing a midget
My politics don't lean to the left and I think this person is a joke, and you guys singing her praises are doing your best to support the worst republican ticket in decades.
What could be worse than an Obama win? A McCain win and death which would put this person in the Oval Office.
Talk about high insurance rates.........

I see Sacra Palin still has the left badly scared. But it's even. Obama has me badly scared. It's chilling to have a man who knows nothing abut economics except government give aways this close to the Presidency. The fact that he can generate so much support with empty promises of handouts is evidence that greed is a powerful factor.

Jack,
I fully agree. Both sides want plenty of "cover" with elections just around the corner and should the bailout go badly, and are willing to put this desire above the needs of the country.
Granted, Pelosi saying "$700 billion a staggering number but only a part of the cost of the failed Bush economic policies to our country" wasn't the smartest thing to say just before a vote in which you need a lot of republican support, but Blunt's petty comments are just as stupid.
Posted by: Marctnts | September 29, 2008 at 02:06 PM
careful jack(louie), you'll make these guys choke on her bathwater.
Posted by: solomon | September 29, 2008 at 01:50 PM
Palin is a foreign policy expert because Putin might fly over Alaska. That pretty much explains mhy opinion of her.
Listening to Boehner, Blunt, et al explaining how they had alot more Republican votes lined up but they voted against the bailout because Pelosi didn't give the Reps enough credit in her speech is really disheartening.
Let the finger pointing commence!
What a bunch of gutless bastards on both sides of the aisle. All any of them want is to be able to blame the other side.
BTW: Please note that almost two thirds of the Reps voted against a bill that John McCain came out in favor of. Leadership?

Gee, it looks like GCYL knows about as much about what constitutes "irony" as Alanis Morissette. In any case, not when great silver slugs are eager to feed.

“ME262 (or Tiny, Pub, or whatever it is today):” - Marctnts
The irony here is you could just refer to him as Swallow as that was the official German name for their Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe.
Oh, wait, did I just make a Nazi reference? I lost.
