Lake Winnebago murder case

Regarding the article about the 1970 Lake Winnebago murder case (11/9, A-1, “Old case of young love and murder gets new life; Details are offered about Lee’s Summit student’s death as officials hope for new clues”): Our family lived in the same area in Merriam with the Clines. The suspect, Mike Cline, had spent a lot of time with my sons. He went to school in Shawnee, Hocker Grove Junior High and Shawnee Mission North.

To us he was kind, polite and funny — a good kid, an ordinary kid from an ordinary neighborhood. He was not the arrogant, spoiled rich brat depicted. He was a teenager you would welcome into your home.

If he is alive, I am sure he is not a blasé, happy guy. He would be haunted, as he should be, and both families have my prayers.
