I had the opportunity to travel to Europe recently, and while there almost everyone we met asked us how we thought the election would go and who would be elected as our new president. It surprised me, as I didn’t realize how relevant our decision might be to the everyday person in another country.
We were typical tourists and were very excited to hear the history behind the sights we had previously seen only through photographs. We asked a bus driver in London why someone would want to visit the United States, as we really don’t have a lot of history here, even though we do have some beautiful natural sights. He told us that Europeans view the U.S. as having power and freedom.
It seems other countries envy and admire our democracy and the freedom to change our own government when we think it needs to be changed. We take so much for granted as U.S. citizens. It was an eye-opener for me.
