Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

Now that the election is over, I’m looking forward to fewer yard signs around town. Hopefully, the people who put up all the political posters will kindly take them down posthaste.

And, while I’m on the subject, I hope the city will take action and remove all the pesky signs advertising everything from poop-scooping to maid service.

I don’t mind a sign or two that advertises a special event, but promoting services on yard signs is mucking up the beauty of our city streets and boulevards.

North Kansas City has a pretty good policy regarding signs. NO. They can't be on public right-away, or on street lamps. And if they are found there they will visit your business and write you a nice fine. Too bad KC is just too big to enforce something like that.

On that note, I love to take fliers that are under my wipers on my car and take them over to the police station and put them under the cops wiper blades. Ahhh the fun.

My favorite ones are still the Funkhouser for Mayors signs that continue to hang in the window at Westport and Main.

I can identify. Here in Topeka, there are strict sign rules--so they say--but the only ones they seem to enforce are yard sale signs. They even have a special harrassment team for those.
Meanwhile, businesses continually violate the sign ordinances, without change.
Topeka's not a pretty town to begin with, but the prevalence of all this flotsam and junk only makes it worse.
