I am writing regarding the “Doonesbury” comic strip by Garry Trudeau in the Jan. 18 Comics section. I am appalled that someone was allowed to write this and print this, especially in the part of the newspaper targeted towards children. I have an 8- and a 10-year-old, and even though we do not speak like this, my daughters are intelligent enough to know what the asterisks are for. I really feel that someone needs to be held responsible for printing such filth.
I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and some people have very strong opinions toward President Bush. However I feel it is very immature and irresponsible to express it in the comic section that so many kids read.

Oh, Griffy goes back WAY far. That's where the Doggie Diner references come from, Oakland and Berkeley 1968. Man KNOWS his Doggie Diner pastrami sandwiches.

Gimme a break, Rouge. This dim bulb thinks little kids read the comics. Start with Chickweed Lane and go down through Zippy and see how many comics are for eight-year-olds.

....and yet your opinions are almost always comical...

"Dumbberries" has belonged on the editorial page since its inception. Opinion belongs there, not in the comics.

Farley's dead?????

Yeah, I remember when my kid brought his third-grade buddies over after school listening to them dissect that morning's Doonesbury. They were SO HOOKED on Zippy the Pinhead, Bloom County, Sally Forth, and all those other kid-oriented strips. I remember how excited they were over the death of Farley and the abortion in Funky Winkerbean.
Who ARE these people?

Carrie is certainly overwrought. Just what expletives does Carrie think are being substituted with asterisks? I must admit that I can't be sure what the one under the helmet means. Butthead? I must assume that Carrie doesn't allow cable TV into her home. She must also hide the newspaper. I found the story about the man who fathered four children with his teenage daughter far more obscene that the word "ass" or f***."

Get a grip Carrie. Kids don't read the comics any more and haven't for decades. Newspaper comics mostly read by adults and have adult themes. You're only yapping because your buddy Bush got another well-earned public scolding.
