Say it isn’t so! I was so disappointed to read that my favorite barbecue restaurant, Famous Dave’s, closed its doors after less than a year in the Power & Light District (1/14, Business). I had highly anticipated this restaurant’s downtown opening after a year of rumors that it was originally coming to City Center Square.
As a Northlander and Hospital Hill worker, I delighted in its location and relished no longer having to trek across the state line, all the way to The Legends, for tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs and catfish.
As challenging as the competition for Kansas City barbecue can be, Famous Dave’s gave the locals a run for their money in taste, variety and hospitality.
Greg Cutchall, please reconsider. If you’re looking for a new place for a Famous Dave’s, give us another chance. Or come north. We’d love to have you, and a redevelopment opportunity awaits you in the Antioch Shopping Center community.

By any standard....religious, philosophical or taste, any mention of Barry Manilow in a BBQ thread could be considered an offense.

Stone, I'd go see freakin Barry Manilow if he was playing RR.
That wasn't Panic by chance, was it? I forgot the Gothic was down there.

How can you afford concerts stone, everyone is struggling and broke. 9 out of 10 homeowners pay their mortgages on time.

I was at the Gothic Theatre for a show where doors opened at midnight (Red Rocks afterparty/concert). I forgot you know all about CO, seeing as how you've probably been to red rocks 50 more times than I have

Be careful about saying an area isn't that nice, it will be assumed you are making a racist statement. Bad area or tough part of town is often called a code word.

It depends where you are Stone. The area by Fiddler's Green (I assume that's where you were) isn't the nicest but most of it is subdivisions and office parks. Kind of like JoCo.

Thanks. I know where that is. It's down by Tech Center. I'll check it out.
And yes, Jake Edwards has been OB for a while. That was just a few blocks from me so I went there quite a bit. Their ribs were a bit dry but the sauce was good.

Englewood, Co is a sketchy area. I was there in september for a concert.... not safe... so there is a good chance the BBQ could be quite good

Bono's Pit BBQ
(303) 850-7427
9393 E Dry Creek Rd
Englewood, CO
Wyandotte is good IMO, however I would try the one in Wyandotte County off State Ave.
Jake Edward's used to be really top, but I think they are OB now. (50th and Main).
It is funny though, people sooooooooo broke they are struggling but can afford to eat at mid-tier restaurants.

Damn you people. Now I've got to wend my way down to Snead's for lunch. Off the road, Beltonians, I'm using it.

Sorry, Casady, better check more closely: it's 99% sure to be tri-tip. If not, you've hit the mutha lode.

Come to think of it, I'll be in Denver next week. Where is it exactly, NMMNG?
There is also a place up in Frisco which is up in Summit County called Q4U. The owner (Kerry Robinson) worked at Smokestack on Wornall for years so it's really authetic for anyone who may venture up to ski country.

Give it a rest, NMMNG. We are having a nice discussion about BBQ. Is it really necessary to throw your perennial cynicism into it? Besides, you can get a decent BBQ sandwich for under $5.
I do like Rosedale though. Is Wyandotte really good? I've been passing the one on 75th and Metcalfe for years and I never see any one in there.

I am going to Denver in March, I'll look it up.

Actually the U.S. Governments says that everyone is struggling and people have no money. Share with us your secret source of knowledge, as I recall it has something to do with driving around in an SUV.

There are many good BarBQ joints in KC, Famous Daves is okay however too commercial.
Try Rosedale or Wyandotte, they are really good. Sol, if you are ever in Denver try a joint called Bono's it is pretty decent if you like Southern based. On a second note, who can afford to eat out with the economy being so bad, the media says everyone is struggling and has no money.

Now Kate, you take that back! I will not tolerate anyone, no matter how nice they may be, slamming BBQ joints in Annapolis. There is a Red, Hot and Blue (Memphis BBQ)on Route 50 that kicks ass. There is also a joint on Route 210 on the way to the Mayo Creek Marina that ranks up there.
Bottom line is Famous Dave's ranks about the same in Annapolis as it does in KC.

Famous Daves serves the best BBQ in Annapolis.

If the rib meat is falling off the bone, it's been overcooked. Gates, Bryants and many other local establishments would be embarrassed to serve ribs that way.
