My wife and I went to see ventriloquist comedian Jeff Dunham at Kemper Arena last Saturday night. The snow had already arrived and made for a nice ice pack, not to say anything about the base of rain that had frozen under the snow. There were more than 10,000 paying customers attending this event that evening. There was not a snowplow or salt spreader anywhere to be seen.
The drive and walk into Kemper Arena was a real adventure, but that was nothing compared to the icy adventure after the show.
It was embarrassing to see that this once-proud arena did not get even enough attention as to get a few hundred pounds of ice melt to keep its attendees safe. I bet they had ice melt at the Sprint Center.
Maybe I should have fallen and sued the city. That seems to be the popular thing to do these days, and when the mayor opened his mouth to voice his opinion, I could have doubled my request to settle.
Come on Kansas City. Step up to the plate.

Or wasting $15,000 per night for a hotel room to listen to slick a$$ lawyer run his piehole is equally frivilous.

$50.00 to see him perform and hear 10,000 Bubbas say all the punchlines.
I thought I paid to hear HIM tell the jokes.
BTW: "Guitar Guy" was better at this performance. Even my kids were bored.

I was ashamed and embarrassed by the bubba-filled audience who drank beer all night and then loudly proclaimed the punchlines to the jokes. No wonder the rest of the country calls us a cowtown.
I was also ashamed that Jeff Dunham's researcher was so poor - honey, it wasn't cold THAT day; it had been 60 the day before and only 2 just a week before that. Plus, the river does NOT divide the two states (it only partly does that).
If ignorance truly is bliss, this world is truly a very blissful place to be.

I've not lived in KC all that long, not quite two years, but I'm really disappointed to hear so many people complaining about the poor attention to snow removal and de-icing. Maybe Funkhouser should send a contingent up to Chicago for a training session with the Dept. of Streets and Sanitation. Believe me, making the streets safe for travel isn't impossible.
Back in Chicago, we threw the mayor out of office in the 1980 election, based solely on the city's abysmal response to the 90" of snow we had that winter. Since that time, the response to bad weather has been on the level of 'shock and awe'. City and county officials know their jobs depend on it. So as corrupt as people might think Chicago is, believe me, it ain't called 'the city that works' for nothing.

Have to think the city was shocked 10,000 paid to go see Jeff. How much were the tickets?
