President’s pricey palate

I wish to answer your question, “Will (Obama’s) palate inspire change, too?” (2/3, FYI). Recently, I read that President Obama was wining and dining White House guests with wagyu steaks. Being unsophisticated, I had to investigate what a wagyu steak is. Then I went on to price them, just in case they would inspire my palate.

At the price of $125 per pound, I will never be able to afford wagyu steaks. These steaks are not in my budget. Rather, I will have to be satisfied with hamburger.

Can you cite an example that even comes close?

This does remind one of Versailles just a bit.

And look how it turned out for them...

Engineer,

Do you honestly think that it was any different in the Bush years?

Texas Toms....the Official Caterer of the Bush Administration.....

Get real, man, this is not some young guy "eatin' high off the hog"(in this case a steer). They've been having pricey dinners on us for years.

I agree that this is not a monumental issue. However, at this time for a man supposedly aligned with the feeling and condition of the people, it seems a strange excess. On the other hand, can you imagine the clamor if it were the Bushes eating these stakes on the tax payer's tab?

Dearest Kate,

Those are going to leave lines in your face.

If the best you've got to complain about is the menu Obama serves, I'd say that's a glowing compliment of his service so far.

This reminds me of the hoopla surrounding Bush's decision to finish reading to the kids during 9/11. Some people are always looking for something to complain about, and NOTHING will ever meet with their approval.

I thought Gary’s comment was pretty funny.

Reminds me of the guy who said he was disappointed to see that Obama walked to the inaugural podium, as he always figured Obama would be carried aloft by a host of cherubim and seraphim.

Good morning Gary,

You resemble the weak minded and bitter with remarks like that.

Never being a Dem, and rarely being on the wrong side of an election, this venom, sarcasm and resentment this president has amassed in a few weeks say volumes to me about his detractors. I was not a fan of online anonymous conversation when Bush came in, I always did my own critiques of letters and left it at that.

There are a bunch of bitter folks out here no matter which universe is bizzaro to you.

Gary

I assumed that Obama eats only nectar and ambrosia.

Robert I might be worried if I heard the White House was serving pricey steaks at every meal. But c'mon ... do you think Dubya and Laura ate grilled cheese sandwiches? Your letter sounds like sour grapes. If you have nothing substantial to say I suggest you go back to worshipping at your little shrine to George W. Bush.

solomon

Will the people who are so stupid that they don't believe this is common and unique to the Obama presidency please announce yourselves.

Kate

Don’t worry, Mr. Straub, we’ll bail you out!
