I hope that the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department will continue to listen to the neighbors of Sunnyside Park and not place a dog park in that highly used, wonderful park, even if it is privately funded.
I understand that we need to accept less due to the city budget troubles, but if we listen to Deb Hipp (2/17, Letters), Sunnyside will have no grass, lots of mud, fences, left-behind dog toys and, most of all, no young children
Sunnyside is used by so many and would be a loss to south Kansas City.

The dog park at Heritage Park is a lot of fun, but it is carpeted with piles of poop. No one other than us (that I've noticed) picks up after their dog. I sanitize the bottoms of my shoes and clean our dogs' feet whenever we return from the park.
Other than a zillion chewed up tennis balls, I've never seen any dog toys left behind.
As for grass, there are field weeds that are mowed periodically. Some muddy spots, but mostly dog poop lurking in field weeds. In other words -- heaven on earth for a dog.

I'm not that familiar with local dog parks, so I pose the question, are Ms. Lillis' claims true? Do the local dog parks suffer from the kind of misuse and neglect that Ms. Lillis say they do?
