Royals opener on Good Friday

Is it me that's nuts or Major League Baseball? The Royals' home opener is at 3:10 p.m. Friday, April 10. Not just any Friday - Good Friday. Now, I realize that there are a lot of people who wouldn't think twice about that, but, then again, there are millions of people for whom that is a special day, and a baseball game probably isn't in their plans.

Shouldn't Major League Baseball take special circumstances like this into consideration when it is forming the schedules?

"Lets all start observing Ramadan, Jewish holidays and Chinese New Year."

I remember Hakeem Olajuwon keeping the Ramadan fast during the season, which must have been incredibly hard. Shawn Greene, I remember, did not play on Yom Kippur (a Jewish! holiday).

Considering the number of Latin American players in MLB, I'd say that Catholics are well represented. If they decided, in masse, to sit out, then the league might change its policy.

As a fan, if you don't like it, then don't go.

ChotoCK,

Insult? Lets all start observing Ramadan, Jewish holidays and Chinese New Year.

You know what day a year there is never a comedy club open? Super Bowl Sunday.

ChotoCK

actually, 3pm is the time when most of the major liturgical churches will be holding prayer services as this is when it is believed Christ died on the Cross. You have an extremely Holy day, whether you believe in it or not. For Catholic it is a day of fasting, required fasting and abstinence from meat.

How many baseball players are Catholic? How many fans? granted, most will just ignore the laws of the Church and do what they want, but there is no reason for this sort of insult.

Jim couldn't think of anything sensible to write to the Star about but they published it anyway.

As a Christian I must confess that I am unaware of some type of day-long activity that takes place on Good Friday that would not permit me to attend a ball game.
Should the Royals and Chiefs stop playing on Sundays as well?
