Wise words from long ago

Our forefathers were blessed with wisdom that is lacking today. A case in point in the quotation from Patrick Henry so many years ago:

“The Constitution is not an instrument for government to restrain the people. It is an instrument for the people to restrain the government — lest it come to dominate our lives and interest.”

Wisdom of the long ago, but very apropos today. Certain truths last forever.

Engineer:

Whispering is once again being dishonest. Hecannot show that Bush said what he claimed Bush said.

The only source for the bogus Bush quote is a December 5, 2005 article written by Doug Thompson on a web site called Capitol Hill Blue. Wonkette characterizes Capitol Hill Blue as "the political rag that also functions as a tin foil hat." FactCheck.org goes even further in casting doubt on Thompson's article.

Joe
The judges you don't like are those who believe that the Constitution means what it says and what the Framers intended it to mean. The ones of whom you apparently approve such as Ginsburg and Breyer believe it is to be "interpreted" according to modern thought with references to decisions made in European courts.

Can you produce any proof of that fantasy? But really isn't it those, like you, who believe it's "a living document" who are considering the Constitution "just a piece of paper"? And more than that, a piece of paper to whose contents you can ascribe whatever meaning you please?

Stifled Freedom

And now we have a bench full of judges who think just like Bush.

Unwise words from not long ago ...

""Mr. President," one aide in the meeting said. "There is a valid case that the provisions in this [USA Patriot Act] undermine the Constitution.""

""Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," [George W.] Bush screamed back. "It's just a g**d***** piece of paper!""

You might want to consult with Big O on whether you are accurate, he is THE subject matter expert on Constitutionality.
