I haven’t read Atlas Shrugged yet, but after reading the following quote from it I think I may. I can’t help but think of it as a warning about our current national political leaders, Democratic and Republican.
“When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion — when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing — when you see money flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors — when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you — when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice — you may know that your society is doomed.”
— Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged (1957)

"Me, me, me."
"Parasites, looters."
"Sex, sex, sex."
There, I just boiled the book down to three lines and saved you wasted hours of reading the whole thing yourself. You can read the Bible, cover to cover, faster than you can get through "Atlas Shrugged". Both have their fans and, strangely, their fans all get the same thing from each.
I read somewhere that Rand and Alan Greenspan were special "friends". Oh, the horror of that image.

If you’re serious about reading the book, Dan, take my advice and don’t try it while reclining on your deck on a warm, sunny day. You’ll be asleep in no time. This is a book best read in a hard wooden library chair, with a case of Red Bull nearby. Rand had some good thoughts, but JHO, where was the editor?
