Happy driver of GM cars

There have been recent letters about General Motors and their cars. After attending business college, I was hired as a secretary in the Leeds Plant, then later I was transferred to the GM office. I retired after 30 years of service.

During these years I was driving GM cars in the 30 miles to work and 30 miles home. I have never had a problem with a car. The one I am driving now is a 2002 Buick Century, one of the best. When I turn the key on, the instrument panel will “talk” to me, telling me how much gas I have and whether I am low on oil. Then it’s “put strap on,” and we are on the road.

I try to drive sensibly, and certainly not like I sometimes see other people drive. If the light is red, I do not go until it turns green. But I have had people behind me start honking before it turns green. And no, it is not a friend behind me.

Dan,

Lol. Is that a run-by fooding? I deserve it, I guess, but will you please quit now. I'm approaching lactose intolerance.

Is someone trying to stop you from buying milk joco?

Just call it Smoot-Hawley back pressure, Mike. Corporations have found a way to make "global markets" work for Americans--rich Americans.

And dI'm still trying to get used to this "global economy." And apparently so is korea as they still like to send us 700,000 cars a year while they will only allow just a few thousand U.S. built vehicles in their country.

well, nmmng, I've never hung any bumpers. They call them fascias now anyway, some french b.s. But back in the day I put in alot of headlights, mufflers and fender liners.
Now I'm one of about a half dozen people at the plant (or in town) that can keep this multimillion dollar auto assembly machinery crap from.....say it with me, JAPAN operating. They bring their garbage to the plant, it seldom works, and we get to retool and reengineer it so it will work for us and the vendors head back to Japan laughing all the way.
Sometimes GM actually sends it out for warranty rework, and when we get it back, well, you get the idea, we still have to redo it.

My car is an older model, and it doesn’t talk to me. But now that I own GM, I’d like to have the talking feature installed. But not just any voice, I want my car to say the same things to me that Helen’s car says to her – but in the voice of the late, great Barry White. Throw in “baby” at the end of each sentence and I’d never leave the car.

... I see now! Since I always turn right at red lights instead of needlessly waiting for the light to change, MY Buick Century threw a rod at 50,000 miles.

Thanks for clearing that up.

... actually, as ironic as it is - GM has been producing probably the best vehicles in its history as of late - with the Corvette, Caddilac CTS, Chevy Malibu and new Camaro leading the way.

NMMNG,

You know that kind of news turns me a little, well, a lot.

It shows how even Clinton, and maybe Obama now, can help big business put the schplatzick to the UAW and by transfer, the American economy as we now witness.

I fear these kinds of developments elate you even though I doubt you're above the eventual repercussions. Skills are not above malarkey in the international labor market that the world corporations seek.

And, "It's a world economy, get used to it", by some would-be pundits would be useful if the premise wasn't patently obvious and the advice so absurdly apologetic and condescending. No. We won't get used to it.

NMMNG,

No, but it is made by UAW bumper hangers at Claycomo. And MAW workers in Mexico.

Which way to go?

Mike what is the number one selling vehicle in the country?
(HINT: It's not a GM product).
Now go hang a bumper.

Here we go boys, our semi-annual pro-GM letter, to be closely followed by a dozen "what are you talking about lady?? my last 10 GM cars were turds on wheels" letters. HO-HUM!!!

Maybe she's not turning right on red at an intersection where it is allowed.

At any rate, what does that have to do with the make of the car?

Anecdotal, Dan. Like trips to the dairy aisle.

Interesting selling points.

I can honestly say I've never had anyone honk at me for sitting at a red light.

I've got a Honda that talks to me. Every time I put the key in and turn it on, it tells me it's ready to run another 500,000 miles!

It's just the Star's attempt to equalize the anecdotal score. Be surprised any of them make the cut.

Hard to believe this letter made the cut. Ten to one old Helen is a "left lane lounger" driving 53 in a 55 and piling cars up behind her.
