Market gets it right

I agree with The Star’s editorial on airline fees (7/7, “Air travelers face yet another annoyance”). Hidden charges and extra baggage fees when flying have become quite a nuisance.

However, the beauty of any competitive market is that these kinds of problems are best sorted out as people make decisions with their wallets. I think its no coincidence that the only major airline that doesn’t charge for your first or second checked bags, Southwest, is on its way to posting a profit for the 37th consecutive year.

If the others are smart, they’ll soon come around as well.
