‘Prostitution-free’ zones
When did we become so intent on rewarding bad, addictive and criminal behavior? In the article “Fighting city’s sex trade; ‘Prostitution-free’ zone would make it a criminal offense for convicted streetwalkers to return” (7/12, Local), former prostitute-turned-prostitute advocate Caroline Germann believes that programs designed to modify behavior and rehabilitate prostitutes is the right approach to dealing with the problem. How successful and costly have such plans been?
Street prostitution and drug addiction go hand and hand, and recidivism after intervention is extremely high. Providing living accommodations and other resources to get drug-addicted prostitutes off the streets without providing costly 24/7 supervision is a waste of time.
Drug-addicted prostitutes don’t care if they’re living in a penthouse apartment or a cardboard box in an alley so long as they get their drugs. They don’t live in a physical space as much as a drug-induced state of mind.

"Street prostitution and drugs go hand-in-hand". Maybe, but street only.
I go back to the JOCO massage parlors where "thousands of condom wrappers" were found in the trash. I dont recall any allegations of drugs or any charges of drug use or possession. No mere mention of any drugs in those cases. Drugs does not go hand-in-hand with ALL prostitution.
With allegations of prostituion, lies (and plenty of them) come hand-in-hand by many poeple who seek to demonize it because of thier own personal convictions. Lies are the name of the game.
In one week, two KC media outlets had two sex trade sensationalism outpourings in the local media. One here. The other was the "Cyber Sex Trade" by Fox4. You would tink prostitution was rampant in KC. That is hardly the case. In fact, I'll bet its nearly impossible to find. I don't troll Independence Ave, but the last two times I drove down it, I made a special point to look....I saw nothing.

Prostitution and drug addiction don't go hand in hand but prostitution and poverty do. That's a stereotypical statement by a misinformed outsider. "recidivism after intervention is extremely high" isn't true either. In the District of Columbia the few programs that are offered have helped many sex workers get addiction treatment, find housing and learn the skills necessary to find a decent job.

Isn't "free prostitution" like an oxymoron?
