Turned off by turf
I had to laugh when I read “Green home: A new backyard” (6/28, House+Home). Replacing natural grass with artificial turf on their small lawn may have met the needs of the homeowners, but please don’t tout this as a “green” solution.

I read up on artificial turf about ten years ago and couldn't believe what a terrible idea it was. I can't imagine anything that would devalue a home more, or make it difficult to sell. If someone wanted to removed the artificial turf and grow real turf, they'd have a helluva project on their hands.
If you don't want real turf and are looking for green landscaping options, prepare ornamental beds and plant water-wise plants. Use rocks and mulch and sculpture. Use anything but plastic!

Didn't catch the article Kimberly. I'll hit the stack. But I know that some artificial grass is made from discarded tires, not an entirely ungreen application.

Old people need turf, its American to have natural grass. To each his own but somethings go to darn far if you ask me.
