Margaret 1, Dennis 0

How funny that Nia Phillips (9/18, Letters) regards Dennis the Menace as an authoritative spokesman on gender roles. The fulcrum of the humor in that strip has long been the contrast between Dennis’ naive and limited worldview versus the larger perspective of his mom, his dad, his neighbors and sometimes even Ruff.

We’ve known all along that Margaret is way smarter than Dennis, and we share her patronizing reaction when he exposes his ignorance about what’s really important: the girl stuff!
