‘Progressives’ then and now

A letter writer (9/17) commented that the “right” should refrain from listening to O’Reilly, Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh, because that’s where they’re getting their marching orders. It doesn’t take a talk show host to make reasonable, rational individuals realize there is something wrong with the way this country is being run today. Seems to me Hillary Clinton lambasted people who called protesters “un-American.” News flash to the left: You don’t own the First Amendment.

Then there was the enlightened Voices comment (9/17) saying if the “right-wing” were alive during the American Revolution we’d be singing “God Save the Queen.” Really? It seems to me the 9/12 protesters are the very people who are trying to save this republic.

The “progressives” of 1776 gave their lives, fortunes and sacred honor so we can be free. The “progressives” of 2009 in no way resemble the “progressives” of the American Revolution. The 1776 progressives wanted freedom from government oppression. The 2009 progressives want enslavement to the government. That’s a far cry from the ideals of the founding fathers.

Don’t call yourself a progressive and then say you’re in the same league with Washington, Jefferson, Adams and Franklin, because you’re not even close.

It’s sad but you got it, blame game on both ends and there no bi-partisan for what’s best for the country. Its like that on these blogs none can agree to disagree.

The irony is, under the last administration, the right regularly blasted anyone who disagreed with that administration's decision as being unpatriotic, un-American, with the typical response to anyone who disagreed with the policies being, "If you don't like it, get out."

And now that the shoe is on the other foot, such statements are un-called-for, mean, and evidence of how far this Country has fallen...

hmmm...

Mmmm, I know this Pam, that explaines it!

Good job Parn, you have Senator Clara frothing at the mouth again, and talking to herself. The Ammo Humper is reduced to calling names!

OUtstanding comment comment Zubeck!

I mean its like just "pass the dammed bill, you don't need to let the American public read it!"

Hot Flash Congress, you cram it down our throats in 2009, we will stick it up your a--in 2010. Get braced.

Pam,

I'll call myself as I see it; not relying on YOUR bearings or judgment, for I have my own. They are mine, yours are yours.

BTW, the LAST thing our founders wanted was freedom from a ruling government; that's what their aim was: social order via a representative government ruling by popular consent on the issues of life and liberty, rather than an omipotent throne's hegemony across an ocean.

Just from recollection of social studies, I thought the "right" wing of colonial history were the "Tories", those new Americans pushing loyalty to the king. IF that IS true, it only shows how political labeling is quickly passe. But "conservative" is a Roget antonym of "progressive".

Once JFK is in the White House, the Pope will have a hotline to the Oval Office and he'll be running the USA through Kennedy. Catholic churches are stockpiling arms in rectory basements for the armed Catholic takeover of the USA to follow Kennedy's inauguration!!!

Oh, I'm sorry. I was just having a flashback to 1960. Never mind.

"... The 2009 progressives want enslavement ..."

Glenn Beck and the wingnut blogosphere say Obama is building FEMA concentration camps where we'll all be locked up. Political re-education camps for the Obama dissenters. Modern American gulags where we'll all be tagged with RFID chips and retrained as drones!!!

Hillary/Nancy. Well, who can really tell the difference anyway. Potato, potahto.

Hmmmm. And here we have, Leawood.

I think Pam is confusing Hillary with Nancy Pelosi.

Even then, Pelosi never said anyone was "un-American", only that the teabaggers were acting un-American ... which they were/are.

Wwraaaawk! Parrot alert. Parrot Pam.
