One can only imagine how exercised George Will (10/10, Opinion, “First couple all about first-person pronouns”) would have been if instead of first-person pronouns the Obamas had used the royal “we” in their Copenhagen speeches. No doubt charges of “dictator” would have superseded those of “egotist.”
If conservative colleague William Safire handed off the baton of language guru to Will before he passed, old George certainly dropped it with this column.

"...means he is running out of democrats to criticize...." I doubt that's so. There is a pretty substantial stockpile.
Please note that no one is criticizing the Obamas for not bringing the Olympics to Chicago. Therefore, it is irrelevant what the "guy from Spain" said.

Dude, the guy from Spain pleaded for the olympics saying he would die peacefully knowing they would happen in his country. And that guy didn't get it! There is nothing the Obamas could've said or done to change this. They did fine. For George Will to write such a snarky column means he is running out of democrats to criticize.

Obama has always been "I/Me".

George Will's point was perfectly valid, and Will was not the only or first one to notice the Obamas' obsession with themselves. Had President Obama used "we" instead of "I" throughout his speech, I would have assumed he thought he was the Pope. His sales pitch in Copenhagen was demeaning to the office of the Presidency and was incompetently done.
