Recently, Congressman Ike Skelton voted for a defense bill that included legislation that would add sexual orientation to the list of hate crimes, and his opponents attacked him. Now they are attacking him for agreeing to hold hearings on the military’s ban on gays. I hope Rep. Skelton does hold hearings on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. I hope he votes for repealing it, too.
I am a conservative Republican senior citizen, and I don’t completely understand homosexuality, just like I don’t understand why some people left-handed and others are right. But just because some people are different, it doesn’t mean they are second-class citizens — especially those who love and defend our country. This all reminds me of the 1940s, when many people said blacks shouldn’t be allowed to serve with whites.
We needed the contributions of every American patriot then, and we need them now. I am one conservative who won’t be swayed by these attacks on a man who has been a strong supporter of our troops or those who try to win elections at the expense of honorable people who put their lives on the line for our country.

Oops! Our own “honorable” Ike Skelton guilty of a hate crime? Imagine spewing hate into his mike simply because some of his colleagues opposed attaching a hate crimes bill to a sure-to-pass arms appropriation bill — a sneaky, but not surprising, move (10/10, National/Local, “Caught in a curse”).
Do you really want to attack our right to free speech, Ike, when you don’t do so well controlling your own?

Having recently seen Charlie Rose’s interview of Rep. Ike Skelton, I am so grateful to the people of the 4th congressional District of Missouri for sending such a grand statesman, patriot and gentleman to our Congress. Mr. Skelton exhibits mature judgment, diligent scholarship and fairness. Just as important, he speaks respectfully and intelligibly.
Leaders of such caliber, rare as they are, give me what hope I have for the foreseeable future of our nation.

Yeah Limbaugh goes overboard on some things but he is on the money with many things.
I always say if people want and like socialism so much, MOVE to a country that is designed and built around that, then when you need someone to save your a$$, call the USA.

I'll take you up on the thesis, but I can stomach Sharpton about as well Limbaugh.

Learning Hate. I recommend following Al Sharpton or reading Michelle Obama's thesis.

Bye Bye Ike.

"Nobody is born with hate; you have to learn it" I heard recently from the founder of our local HateBusters. Sigh...wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to have legislation to be nice to one another? But thankfully, we have nice people like Ike who serve not only their constituents but the human race. If his consituents disagree, they can expose themselves and boot him out. Gotta love this system.

I like Ike.

This is the same old line, last time I checked no one has a choice whether to be black or not, and they also don't have a choice on whether they tell everyone they are black, please get an new arguement, this one is old, tired, and insulting to blacks.

It is time for Ike to retire, and fade away into the good night.
He has done Nacy Pelosi's bidding lock step far too long. When asked to draft the resolution against the surge in Iraq, which led to our victory, Ike did so with great zeal. So much for supporting our military.
Now he is off on "hate crimes" and the thought police; and on forcing the military to accept homosexuals. Ike you do not represent San Francisco, you represent Warsaw, MO. Time to realize that and step down.
