Comments on tragic stories hurtful

Recently I came across a news story online about car crash in which a friend of mine was killed. Underneath the article was a “comment” section. I was surprised to see several comments about how he should have been wearing a seat belt (assuming he wasn’t), about how people speed too much, and even chiding comments about distracted driving.

Now if someone was reading this in an actual paper, they might voice such comments without consequence or harm. Online, however, friends and family are reading that same article as well as the commentary. If it isn’t something that would be kind to say to them, it should not be posted.

Truthfully I don’t see why commentary should even be enabled for stories such as these (tragedies and accidents), except for condolences. And even those are better saved for the funeral than an online news article.

I think it's pretty cruel for a pin head lawyer to run his piehole spewing false data in Father's Day against fathers and accused fathers. Keep the comment sections.

"Moral City USA" I guess that is a self given title with no real meaning.

Johanna, there are many like MC USA who could care less about your suffering. it is "his right" to be a jerk 24-7 and according to him you just need to get over it.

I am sorry for your loss. And the sorry for the loss of any moral civility in this country.

When you start eliminating the comment feature, for one reason or another, where does it end?

Just dont read the comments on such stories.
