Many of us were opposed to the original Medicare legislation. We believed it was a political expansion of government into services much better performed by the private sector. We feared it would quickly become viewed as an entitlement and a basic right. We knew that government would prove to be incapable of properly managing and controlling it. Many of our parents and grandparents opposed Social Security for the same reasons. History has clearly validated these concerns.
Completely ignoring history, the wishes of most citizens, and the recommendations of the minority party, liberal lawmakers are determined to expand government even further, socializing health care under the guise of improving availability and cost.
Proposed legislation misses the root causes of our problems and adds new levels of complexity to an already overly complicated system. Excessive complexity inevitably breeds increased misunderstanding, misinterpretation, abuse, corruption, bureaucracy and cost. The legislation assures the reduced timeliness, availability and quality of many health care services and guarantees huge increases in total health care costs.
Coupled with other legislative efforts, the proposed legislation can easily lead to the insolvency of America. What greater tragedy could we possibly create for our people and our country?
