Kudos to column on compliments

Although I have been an avid reader for many splendid years of The Star, I have never responded with pen to paper until now.

I am 46, and when I read Lewis Diuguid’s column “Home is where lessons of life must be taught” (11/23, Opinion), it was refreshing to hear such a long-overdue reminder of putting in perspective the importance of administering praise only when it is truly worthy of merit. Keeping it reserved, seemingly as a challenge to attain as a reward, encourages one to strive to become better, if not the best.

And Lewis, compliments did not come often in my family either, but I am darn glad because I know when they did come they were earned.
