I was volunteering with a church group taking tickets at Starlight Theatre. When the national anthem began, a Starlight employee standing by our gate said in a booming voice, “Everyone, please, no talking.” We all could hear the music.
As I watched the silent crowd, I had tears in my eyes and felt a shared sense of patriotism. When the national anthem concluded, everyone began scanning tickets, and the crowd began moving. Before the employee left our gate, I shook his hand and thanked him.
Young children can learn that no matter where they are, they always need to be respectful of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” These students can then become teachers by showing the adults around them what proper and respectful behavior should look like during our national anthem.
Please remember to thank a veteran and remember our brave men and women who are in harm’s way every day to serve and protect our country.

I just got an e-mail with a photo of a ceremony on Veterans day. Two military people were saluting, a civilian had his hand over his heart, and "the Messiah" stood there with his hands at his sides.
