Violinist a joy to hear

On Nov. 21, about 200 others and I were treated to a wonderful performance at the Medical Arts Symphony fall concert. Merton Shatzkin, the music director/conductor brought in one of the finest young violin soloists I have heard recently. Andrew Sords, a 24-year-old, was an absolute wonder as violin soloist for the Beethoven Concerto in D major for violin and Orchestra.

Shatzkin always fields a fine program (played by volunteers, many of whom are professionals at KU Med), but this choice was outstanding. Young Sords was cheered back for encores, which showed his fine talent even better than the Beethoven. Talent like that is such a joy to hear. Thanks, Medical Arts Symphony!
