Vonnegut story prescient

This summer I noticed a renewed interest in Ayn Rand’s classic “Atlas Shrugged.” Then a letter by Amy Brown (11/15) called our attention to George Orwell’s “1984.”

I would like to add to the list of classics worth revisiting. I encourage all to read once again Kurt Vonnegut’s short story “Harrison Bergeron.” It was included in his collection “Welcome to the Monkey House.” Far-fetched? Yes. But, not nearly as far-fetched as it was 30 years ago when I first read it.

More and more, our pursuit of political correctness has moved from being an issue of fairness to a display of absurdity. This story, too, is a tale of eroded liberties and the loss of freedoms.

You should refer to "political correctness" by its real name: cultural Marxism. Look up the Frankfurt school and, among other adherents, Herbert Marcuse.
