Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans in Congress are doing what is best for America. The two parties cannot agree on important issues such as health insurance or long-term solvency for Social Security and Medicare. Both have been fiscally irresponsible. Each party wants to blame the other for anything that is wrong. What causes this negativity and inability to compromise?
The cause is the extremists: the extreme conservatives control the Republican Party, and the extreme liberals control the Democratic Party. Neither group will compromise. What can we do? We can vote against the extremists when they are up for re-election.
Some political analysts say the answer is a strong third party with moderate views, and they think this will happen in 2012. A strong third party would have a positive effect because the extremists would need the third party votes to get their bills passed.
Either voting against extremists or a new, strong third party would be good for America.
