Wrong on Catholics

People have a right to their opinions even when they are wrong. Willa Pierce (10/31, Letters) seems to find her own reasons why the Catholic church is reaching out to Anglicans, and in her view those reasons are much more seductive and insidious than the truth, which is stated by the Catholic News : “Pope Benedict is responding to many requests submitted by individual Anglicans and by Anglican groups asking to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. This could not have come about without the dialogues of the past 40 years and would never have been possible, nor would hopes for full visible unity have been nurtured.”

There is much more for Ms. Pierce to read if she is seeking the truth.

It does not matter if you or 1 billion of you think you are a Christian, it only matters if God believes you are Christians.

No one can "excommunicate" you from your relationship with God, but God. The word of God and teachings of Christ is all there is and is all that matters.

Boss, the Didache explicitly condemns abortion and it dates from the late first century. I believe that would put it quite a bit before the 18th and 19th century, but then again math has never been my strong suit. Also, I have never seen abortion supported in Scripture. And how does having a Bishop or Pope prevent a personal relationship with Christ? Didn't hurt folks in the Epistles, who just happened to have Bishops and Popes, and they did just fine.

Anyways, your responce is way off topic.

"Who is to judge others and condemn them on their actions based on what they think is best for them? Certainly no human being . . ."

Except Boss, who feels qualified to pass judgment on a billion people who happen to be Catholic.

Boss

Luke 10:16: "He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me." You sir, are no Christian because you cannot have a "personal relationship" with Jesus Christ and reject His apostles or their successors, whoever they may be. You simply trust in yourself, probably by making "the Bible" your own personal guide, turning it therefore into a Koran. Look to the mote in your own eye.

Catholics are NOT Christians. They are Catholics. You don't need to follow a pope, bishop or priest to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which is all he wants of you. Catholics have flip-flopped on every issue since their inception. Christ spoke out against usury and profiting through charging interest. The Catholic Church decided that it's okay. The Church never took a stance against Abortion until the late 1700's. Almost 1800 years went by, and now they stand strong against it. The Bible states that abortion should be used in cases such as rape or incest, or if the mother's life is in jeopardy. Catholics believe all abortion is wrong. I am personnaly pro-life, but socially pro-choice. Who is to judge others and condemn them on their actions based on what they think is best for them? Certainly no human being, only God can pass that judgement. Unless you are Catholic of course. Then you have the right to judge any, and everyone as you see fit. Quit listening to other humans that apoint pedifiles and child abusers within the church, not to mention the outright corruprtion that has plagued Catholics since the days following Christ death and resurrection, and trust in your personal relationship with him only.

When a family breaks up, you pick up the pieces and ask them all to reunite. This is just the attempt at reunification of Christians. Check up your history.

Ahh, the old "you must play on our team to get into heaven" argument.
