Immigration reform

Paul Rodriguez gave the best explanation of the destructive dynamics of illegal immigration that I have ever read in his July 16 letter. He gets it.

He understands the value of protecting the great American experiment because he is a contemporary example of its success. Our federal leadership certainly knows the importance of enforcing immigration law. I can only conclude that its failure to do so is an indication of some other agenda.

Ok

400,000 in 2010. Not good enough. Actually, not good at all. According to the United States Government Accountability Office there was an estimated 10 million illegal aliens in the US in 2005 AND an estimated 700,000 illegal entries each year which would bring the total to an estimated 13.5 million today. That's a deportation rate of a whopping 3%.

400,000 deported weighed against 700,000 entries levels to the fact that whatever the Gov. is doing, isn't working.

On a side note, the above reference has an interesting study which shows of 55,322 illegal aliens studied in 2005 they were arrested 459,614 times

To quote Nimper, from the Topeka Capitol Journal:

"Much to the contrary of claims made in this thread and by the conservative media, border security has never been higher.

The Washington Post reports that in 2010 we are on pace to see 400,000 illegal aliens deported by ICE, which is 10% higher than in 2008, and 25% higher than 2007.

Also, there are currently more Border Patrol agents "than ever before in the history of this country." according to a PolitiFact report.

The Los Angeles Times notes that the "Obama administration has outdone its predecessor on border enforcement spending and on deportations of illegal immigrants"

These are just a few examples, of course. Anyone who says the federal government isn't enforcing the law is either ignorant or outright lying simply to push an agenda."

TO THOSE WHO ARE spurred on into vitriolic blather by talking heads and righteous indignation(you know who you are):

IF you present facts here, it's nice to see some proof, a reference, a cite.... ..channel some of that swollen pride into PROVING the charges you so handily level.

Thank you for being grown ups who check out things before simply repeating them as accurate.
