Obama blameless?

From the start President Barack Obama has blamed others for problems he faced: President George W. Bush, Wall Street bankers, medical insurance companies, the tea party, Republicans, the Japanese earthquake. It goes on and on.

Now the rich people are to blame because they don’t pay enough taxes. The mantra is they don’t pay “their fair share.”

The fallacy is that the IRS shoots it down.

They reported that 83 percent of total federal income taxes are paid by the top 25 percent of taxpayers. Isn’t that a fair share?

The president claims public support for raising taxes on the rich. Since about 50 percent of wage earners pay no federal income tax, just FICA and Medicare taxes, it shouldn’t be hard to find a consensus to “tax the rich.”

The problem with higher taxes is that there is no assurance additional revenue will be used to pay down debt rather than fund new spending.

If you research federal revenues and expenditures, you will find that revenue went up steadily after both the Reagan and Bush tax cuts but that spending went up even faster causing deficits.

We have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

Common Kate, you are smarter than that. We could have better policing and schools if the police and teachers just took big enough pay cuts? Yeah, that's the ticket!

Oh, excuse me, we can expand the police force by having the cops accept rolling layoffs (furloughs by their true name). If you lay off one cop in order to bring in a cadet, haven't you defeated the purpose? Unless the real purpose is to get cops at an ever lower wage.

Something occurs to me. For all the people here who have it all figured out that the problem is other people make too much money, not one of you has ever suggested yourself giving up anything at all. Hmmmm?

The radical extremist, pretend to be republicans have nothing in common with Eisenhower, Ford, Dole Dirksen, Rockefeller, Hatfield, and Hagel.
They have become obstructionist and extortionists and could care less about the plight of the American people. All they are interested in is power, and they are willing to say or do anything to re-achieve power.
They are bashing President Obama and the Democrats just like they did President Clinton, and even Hilary.
They have adopted the Big Lie--tell lies, even preposterous lies and repeat them over and over to convince/fool/brainwash the American citizens.
They tell us over and over they will be responsible with taxpayer dollars but when they get in office they spend wildly, increasing the national debt"
Just click;www.lafn.org/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart, and see who the really big spenders are.

Their narrow minded ideology of totally unregulated capitalism gave the green light to unbelievable criminal greed of their corrupt corporate cronies that created, nursed, and then burst the "Housing Fraud Bubble" that led to the almost financial market collapse and the Great Recession. Those after effects are still with us today and may be for decades.

Since the radical extremist, pretend to be republicans have taken control of the House, they have obstructed every stimulus bill, every jobs bill, and unemployment benefit extensions for those fellow Americans that have been out of work for a long time, though no fault of their own. These fake republicans are co-culprits that created the economic abyss we are in, but they will not admit it, they try to blame the Democrats and President Obama for the mess they helped create.

Indecision is being caused by your party's failure to offer any ideas and unwillingness to compromise.

How do you like this situation that your party has created? Do you want some help? Or would you like to see this continue? We'll have to work together though.

Still waiting for tat from you.

LL

Complain all you want King. Obama's your man and he hasn't done a ----. You have no excuses... Unemployment is even worse...stock market jumping around like crazy. No one knows what the next thing Obama's going do...

Will he raise taxes? Will he change the tax laws? What will the healthcare market bring. Indecision is killing employment and the stock market...Promises of the future - run the stock market & and business...

No, LL, I am not. I am a concerned citizen who does not like to see the folks around me and their way of making a living under attack from your party. I know that you'd like to pen me down so that you can attack me too, but I think you already have your hands full with your assault on this entire country.

"with his demeanor the schools are much better off without him - and we're all safer as citizens... ;-)
Posted by: LL | September 02, 2011 at 01:48 PM"

You think you are better off by firing teachers, fire-fighters, and police officers? You keep on keeping on. And hey, what were your ideas to create more jobs? Because so far, I've only heard of how you want to fire people.

LL

Kate... I agree, it seems like the unions are the biggest part of the problem...Teachers were not let go in our district - although there is a hiring freeze which makes the classes considerably more crowded...

...Maybe "The King" is a laid off teacher or policeman? (good thought)...with his demeanor the schools are much better off without him - and we're all safer as citizens... ;-)

Kate

LL, I'd be more concerned about teacher and PD job loss if they themselves were. A local city recently enacted furlough days for all employees in order to prevent job layoffs. The PD union voted against accepting furloughs, so the entire cadet class was laid off. A PD friend explained it: I don't know those guys. Why should I take a pay cut so they can have a job?

Our school district was in months-long negotiations with teachers to accept no pay increase or pay cuts to prevent layoffs. Teachers union was dead set against it. A co-worker who used to be a teacher's union rep explained it to me this way: We'd rather have layoffs. Those teachers can always find a job somewhere else. But if someone takes a cut in pay they never seem to make it up.

I always think of these remarks when people complain about our public safety services being stretched thin, or about overcrowded classrooms.

Tit for tat. I'm still waiting on tat. So far, no tat from you.

"It is time that they earn their keep.
Posted by: B Ker | September 02, 2011 at 09:31 AM"

Because we all know that teachers, fire-fighters, and police officers don't earn their keep, right B Ker?

I'm confused here. You Republicans are all about job creation, right? So you cut taxes for the wealthy who send jobs overseas and then you wish to stick it to our teachers, fire-fighters, and police officers so that you don't have to pay? Am I hearing you correctly?

LL

There you go B. Ker....This King guy keeps posting complaints and offering no solutions...He started out bragging about his wonderful solutions to our economic problems...but then never wants to discuss them....

King...My daughter is a teacher, my grandfather was a professor at MU... I think teachers deserve more money...as well as our police & firemen... sadly right now there doesn't seem to be money available... Most working Americans haven't had any sort of raise in income since 2008 when most of our economic problems began...and many people lost their jobs and even their homes...

Solutions from you?....I still haven't heard any... I'm still open to discussing them - I'd just rather not hear how the republicans are bad and the democrats are good....I think both parties have good & bad - both parties have started wars (as I've proven to you) and both have made mistakes... Try starting a sentence without saying "you people" - as again you do not know anyone here....

B Ker

And they are offering no ideas (just like you) on how to fix things but they for darn sure want to see folks such as teachers, fire-fighters, and police officers fired and have their pay cut, all while they scorch the economy. Ask Scott Walker what I'm talking about.

Perhaps you should do a bit more research. Wisconsin is not doing great. He forced the unions to be competitive in their health care offerings.

Reality has set in, we cannot afford all of the freebies union workers are getting. It is time that they earn their keep. We are tired of paying.

Have you heard of this Scott Walker fellow? Or perhaps Chris Christie? Even Rick Perry has done his share. Shall I continue?

"BTW...You seem like a very unhappy individual...maybe this isn't the pastime for you...
Posted by: LL | September 02, 2011 at 08:50 AM"

I'm actually a very happy and loving person, but your party is actively destroying my country, and you want me to be happy about that fact? No, I think I'll keep pointing out exactly what you people are up to.

LL

darn!! Stupid error - of course Pelosi began her rule in 2007....just a decade of a mistake.... ;-)

Please forgive me - your Highness...

LL

The King....Think I mentioned that I wasn't particularly happy with George W. Bush - but I wan't happy either with the democratic congress (Pelosi) who took over in 1997...

(CNSNews.com) - When Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) gave her inaugural address as speaker of the House in 2007, she vowed there would be “no new deficit spending.” Since that day, the national debt has increased by $5 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/debt-has-increased-5-trillion-speaker-pe

I do lean more toward the right although I have voted for democrats in the past... Nobody wants to see policemen, teachers, or firefighters fired or paid less....money right now is just tighter than in the past...You have noticed the unemployment rate haven't you?

I may not have great solutions to fixing the economy (I do have my opinions and I do talk to republicans as well as democrats) You boast of your wonderful solutions....yet you speak of nothing except your mention of Value Added Tax...BTW I am open to this...but I do believe it might hurt the poor and I don't believe it should be in addition to tax rates as they already exist...

BTW...You seem like a very unhappy individual...maybe this isn't the pastime for you...

"As you can see, throughout history wars have not been by a particular political party...

....and you keep saying that republicans use the economy to murder their own citizens. (Is this because they are trying to cut the vast spending that has increased under this President?)
Posted by: LL | September 02, 2011 at 06:26 AM"

No, LL. It is because Republicans such as you were silent as Dubya was off spending trillions on a war that he lied to Congress about while torturing people and enacting draconian laws. And now, here your party is holding our government, the people they are supposed to represent, and the economy hostage from doing anything to help out this country after they (Republicans) spent 2 years of doing nothing but filibustering everything and anything that could help. And they are offering no ideas (just like you) on how to fix things but they for darn sure want to see folks such as teachers, fire-fighters, and police officers fired and have their pay cut, all while they scorch the economy. Ask Scott Walker what I'm talking about.

But you are a middle of the road type guy, right LL? Who drives on the right side of the road (wink, wink)?

LL

Well, The King...Looks like I missed you yesterday. I still disagree about republicans being the only party to start wars...

http://retiary.org/misc_pages/us_presidents_and_wars.html

As you can see, throughout history wars have not been by a particular political party...

....and you keep saying that republicans use the economy to murder their own citizens. (Is this because they are trying to cut the vast spending that has increased under this President?)

...You jump to the conclusion that I'm for things like right wing separatists...I'm for the right to bear arms....but I've never even owned a weapon - nor had one in my home. (Not that I'm against others choosing to own a gun)...
---------------------------

..and Bigvarmit...those are my feelings regarding the issue on post. He did know the republican schedule and chose to stir the pot...blame Bush, blame The Tea Party, blame the weather, anything or anybody other than himself....

Bigvarmit

Petty, why did Obama schedule the speech on that night to start with? He knew for weeks when the debate would be. He just tried to cause more problems. He can't be blamed for anything he has done, that it wrong. The democrats didn't have any problem blaming Bush for anything he did.

Solomon

......so's it doesn't go over your head... (a) and(2) were intentional and just for you, but I doubt you'll get the reference....
