As director of Brown County Developmental Services for the past 28 years, I can’t remember a time when I have been more concerned for the folks with intellectual disabilities, whom we serve. Managed care may be an answer for some but not for those served in community programs like ours.
Our folks cannot always tell us what’s wrong with their health. Therefore they may need to go to the doctor more often or have more extensive tests to find the answer to their health problem.
Will managed care control how many medical visits they can make? Will it control whether they can take non-generic medicine? (Some with severe seizure disorders cannot take generic medicines, as they don’t control their seizures.) For our folks who also have a mental illness, we have heard that managed care through for-profit insurance companies may limit them to the old, cheaper, psychotropic medications that do not work for them and that have terrible side effects.
Also of grave concern is the extreme change this will create administratively. How could this save Kansas money?

The fit survive, the weak perish...the country has too many problems to let the inferior drag us down.

Paranoia will destroy ya.

gringo's point about who owns our politicians is relevant. In this country we only have the influence that can be purchased. Its no longer one man one vote. its one dollar one vote. Or more accurately one million dollars one vote.

"... How could this save Kansas money? ..."
Who says it's supposed to? It's supposed to make BC/BS or the other insurers wealthy on the taxpyer dime.
Let's try to keep everything in perspective please.

Does this change benefit the Koch Brothers? If the answer is "yes" our(?) governor will support it. If the answer is, "this will not benefit the Koch Brothers, then our(?) Governor is against it.
So the question is?
